The Endless Journey travels to a venue near you!
16th February 2012
The Endless Journey is the latest Access All Areas produced tour but this performance project is a little bit different. With all of the overseas bands we work with there is a story behind the music, be it the soundtrack to a revolution, a stance against corruption or a journey to save an instrument from obscurity. The Endless Journey is the story of a group of musicians from Niger who travelled the world promoting their nomadic culture only to realise that whilst they were away their children were turning their backs on their cultural heritage. So they took a desert road trip to try to stem the tide and reinvigorate the tradition for a new generation. Award winning photographer and film maker Jean Molitor accompanied them and the resulting exhibition and documentary film are a new dimension to this touring show. The musicians are Mamane Barka and Oumarou Adamou who toured ‘The Lone Master of the Biram’ in the UK in 2010 and Alhousseini Anivolla and Bammo Agonla from Etran Finatawa who were in the UK as part of a European tour in 2009. The music show is a new collaboration bringing together their respective nomadic traditions and you can watch their story unfold as we post music, images and news from Niamey as the project evolves counting down to their arrival in the UK in June.
