El Tanbura – from Tahrir Square to a venue near you!
1st March 2011
Veteran Egyptian master musicians and Sufi philosophers El Tanbura, fresh from their inspirational appearances in Tahrir Square during the Egyptian Revolution, will be returning to Europe in July 2011 bringing their unique Port Said blend of devotional music and defiant folk anthems from both the 1950s and 2011.
The band featured on 27 February in The Observer’s coverage of music protests across the arab world; look out next for a forthcoming feature in the next edition of Songlines Magazine.
The band will also be appearing at WOMAD festivals in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain 7-9 April, including a special collaboration with Hindi Zahra.
